If you compare it to the a7III – its predecessor and more natural competitor from the same manufacturer – it's smaller in size and less in weighs too. There are some strengths and weaknesses over the a7III.
Not so well:
Stabilization system has no improvements, no joystick control, no front wheel control, less customizable buttons, electronic view finder is rather poor. Maximum shutter speed is 1/4000 compare to 1/8000 at a7III. The camera has only one memory card slot.
Better then before: Camera has flippy screen, slim body better balanced (good on gimbals), 20% lighter then a7 III, improved shutter, improved port covers. Battery is living longer now (finally!) you can do more photos and videos per charge. Better auto-focus in photo and video modes, improved continuous eye tracking in video. Camera equipped with dedicated video record button and has no video recording limits.
In my opinion the camera built as micro four thirds and APS-C models competitor. Sony took existing technology, improved it in many ways, and put it in a smaller lighter body. The a7c is perfectly working for travel, hiking, and vlogging. It could be comparable with my MFT system by wight and size, but suggesting 24MP full frame sensor and wide range of lenses.
If you already own an a7III, you probably do not find a huge benefit in switching to this camera. However if you're looking for full-frame alternative of your aging system built on APS-C or MFT sensors, you are going to travel, hike, or shooting vlog that camera is able to maximize your image quality, weight and space parameters, you should definitely put this camera on your shopping list. I'd highly recommend it!
